BRS seeks accountability for Musi development

Hyderabad: The BRS has said it has serious doubts over the budgets being bandied about by the Congress government for cleaning of River Musi and plans for the riverfront development. Party working president K.T. Rama Rao told reporters on Wednesday that the BRS government had already completed a bulk of the cleaning of water entering the Musi by setting up a series of sewerage treatment plants (STPs).

Rama Rao, who along with former ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and other BRs leaders, visited the STP at Fatehnagar in Kukatpally Constituency, questioned the need for huge funds for the Musi cleansing project. The BRS government had initiated construction of 31 STPs at a cost of `4,000 crore. And because of the work by the BRS government, Hyderabad is set to emerge as the first South Asian city to have 100 per cent waste water treatment. “When we came to power, this capacity stood at 725 million litres a day (MLD), to which our government added capacity of 1,300 MLD more,” he said.

“There is more to this than just the project cost. The government is saying it might cost `50,000 crore to `1.5 lakh crore. Is there a detailed project report? And the government is trying to hand over the project contract to a blacklisted company from Pakistan. We will reveal everything at the right time,” he said.

On demolitions by HYDRAA, Rama Rao said the government by taking up demolitions timing them in such a manner that the courts cannot take any action, were making a mockery of the legal system and the judges. “We will be requesting the Chief Justice to take up this matter as a suo motu case,” he added.
