Hyderabad: The GHMC’s Kukatpally zone, headed by zonal commissioner Apurv Chauhan, has turned into a den for irregularities and fraudulent billing, according to residents.
Town planning wing officials have been accused of ignoring illegal constructions, some sanitation staff remain merely on paper. There have been accusations of fraudulent billing of road restoration works and Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) sweeping machines.
In Gautaminagar in Kukatpally zone, a road has caved in twice due to the same illegal construction. The officials protected the person building it. Locals accused corporation officials of taking bribes to look the other way.
The GHMC officials of Kukatpally zone ignored the complaints raised by RTI activist Vinay Vangala related to a building located in Moosapet circle and ensured that its construction was completed.
“Since the time the illegal structure's construction commenced, I have made several complaints to officials, but in vain. Now, the building has been completed with the help of officials,” Vangala told Deccan Chronicle.
GHMC officials here have also ignored the encroachments on Kamuni Cheruvu in Kukatpally zone.
The main roads in Kukatpally zone are not swept by the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) agencies, but no action has been taken against them, with other irregularities including shoddy road restoration works being alleged.
In this zone, despite funds being sanctioned for monsoon emergency teams, only the HYDRAA staff are visible on the roads during downpour attending rain-related complaints.
Sources said baby feeding centre also leased out to commercial establishments in the zone, but no action has been initiated.
The Annapurna canteen right adjacent to the GHMC zonal office from where zonal commissioner Chauhan works is also in a pathetic condition.
"The old ZC madam was strict and initiated action on illegal structures , this new sir is only refraining himself to clicking pictures and posting on Twitter,” alleged an official from the GHMC Kukatpally zone.
