Candlelight march taken out for Pulwama martyrs

Hundreds of retired Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) persons held a candle march in honour of 40 CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama attack on February 14, 2019.

Hyderabad:Hundreds of retired Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) persons held a candle march in honour of 40 CRPF personnel killed in the Pulwama attack on February 14, 2019.

The march began at NTR Samadhi gate near the Secretariat north gate and culminated at the 125-foot Ambedkar statue.

The association has demanded a CAPF Welfare Board in Telangana, house tax exemption, land for a welfare hall, reservation for their children in entrance exams, and liquor licenses for CPC canteens. They have submitted several petitions, but no action has been taken, many of them lamented.

Several former CAPF personnel from CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, and Assam Rifles participated in the match with their families.

Persons from CAPF play a major role in national security, guarding borders, handling internal threats and protecting key public places. Despite this, they do not receive enough government support, the retired persons said.

The Telangana Ex-CAPF Personnel Welfare Association has been asking the state government for benefits similar to those given to retired defence personnel but to no avail.

Association leaders, including president K. Shyam Sunder Reddy, general secretary M. Raju, and its chief advisor S.N. Reddy, urged the Chief Minister to fulfil these demands, as was done in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Goa, and Daman & Diu. The event ended with participants lighting candles and observing two minutes of silence for the Pulwama martyrs.
