Cantt residents cry out over erratic water supply

Hyderabad:There has been growing frustration among residents in colonies of Secunderabad Cantonment, including Trimurthy Colony, Mahendra Hills, Ravi Colony, Sanjeeviah Colony and Balamrai Colony, as they continue to struggle with erratic water supply and frequent disruptions. Despite long-standing appeals to the SCB and HMWS&SB, water delivery remains unreliable, with some households receiving water only once every five days.

The situation has prompted residents to seek intervention from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. In a formal letter to the Chief Minister, E. Bhaskar Rao, president of the Trimurthy Colony Residents’ Association, highlighted the critical need for at least 2.5 to 3 lakh per gallons (GPD) to sustain daily requirements in their colony alone. However, residents report receiving only 1.3 to 1.4 lakh GPD, a quantity that barely meets basic needs.

“We’ve been facing constant disruptions in water supply despite numerous requests to the authorities,” said Rao. “Our colony, like many others in Mahendra Hills, has struggled with an inconsistent supply. We need the government’s urgent intervention to resolve this long-standing issue.”

In addition to the inadequate water supply, residents expressed disappointment over the delayed activation of a recently constructed mega overhead tank at Balamrai, which was intended to ease shortages in Mahendra Hills and surrounding areas. Although SCB promised to install a booster pump to ensure sufficient pressure and consistent distribution, no action has been taken so far, leaving communities without relief.

“It’s not just our colony, the entire area is facing a water shortage. Schools, religious institutions and even government facilities are affected by this erratic supply,” added K. Shivananda, another resident. He hoped that the CM’s intervention could expedite the process, noting that residents have been in constant contact with SCB and HMWS&SB officials but have yet to see a permanent solution.

“We feel as though our pleas have been ignored for too long. We’re hopeful that this appeal to the Chief Minister will lead to concrete steps and that the booster pump installation, which has been delayed, will finally be completed,” he noted.

Acknowledging the growing concerns, an SCB official assured residents that efforts were underway to address the water supply issues. “We understand the hardships faced by the residents and are committed to resolving these issues. The booster pump installation is a priority, and we aim to complete the work as soon as possible to restore consistent water supply across affected colonies,” the official said.

The Board had said their recent initiative, which includes pipeline repairs, the installation of a new water tank and addressing technical faults, is expected to benefit over 3,000 households, with residents hopeful for a reliable water supply soon.
