Captured Tiger Flummoxes Forest Officials

Samples sent to CCMB to understand abnormal behavior

Adilabad: Chandrapur forest officials are investigating the reasons behind the abnormal behaviour of a tiger they captured two days ago near Anthargaon in Virur Forest Range, Rajura Taluka, Maharashtra. The tiger is being held at the Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) in Chandrapur for further examination.

The forest officials are trying to determine whether this tiger is the same one that killed humans along the Maharashtra-Telangana border. They will share their findings with their counterparts once they have more clarity on the issue.

Various samples from the captured tiger have been sent to CCMB in Hyderabad and another laboratory in Bengaluru to understand why it behaved unusually by venturing onto roads and agricultural fields.

Officials believe that the tiger's abnormal behaviour during the cotton-picking season caused widespread terror. People, especially farmers, were panicked by its actions.

The forest department is studying the tiger's history. The big cat was regularly sighted near roads, human habitations, and agricultural fields. Maharashtra forest officials feel that the tiger created numerous issues for the department and caused panic among villagers with its movements.

Rajura sub-divisional forest officer Pawan Kumar Jong told the Deccan Chronicle that the tiger was causing significant problems for people and that capturing it was necessary.
