Drunk Gym Trainer Kills Two Students In Crash

Hyderabad: A drunk gym trainer, driving a high-end sedan and speeding at over 130 km per hour, rammed into a stationary electric bike at Omkarnagar under Vanasthalipuram on Tuesday night, killing two engineering students and injuring a pedestrian.

The incident occurred at 11.30 pm when victims Kancherla Siva, and Nakirekanti Sandeep Kumar, both aged 20, were standing near the divider in front of the Indian Oil petrol station on their electric scooter. The high-end car, bearing number TS 08 JL 2496, came from the Sagar Ring Road flyover and hit their vehicle.

Both students sustained severe head, leg and hand injuries and died on the spot. Another pedestrian, Sabavat Sridhar, 23, crossing the road from the petrol station, was also struck as the car overturned.

The car owner, Ram Kumar Reddy, attempted to flee but lost control after hitting the divider. His car skidded nearly 100 metres before overturning. Police apprehended him and a breath analyser test showed 160 BAC. The car was seized and he taken into custody.

Vanasthalipuram police SHO S. Ravi Babu told Deccan Chronicle, “We were informed about the accident by a passerby. We contacted the injured person Sridhar’s parents in Loyapally village, Manchal mandal, and admitted him to Agastya Hospital, Omkarnagar. He is currently undergoing treatment,”

, son of Venkateshwarlu of Alwala village, Halia mandal, Nalgonda district, and his college mate Sandeep, son of N. Ramulu of HB Colony, Miryalaguda, were both second year ECE students at Mahavir Engineering College.

Police registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving causing death, drunk driving, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. The victims’ bodies were shifted to OGH Hospital for post mortem.

On hearing of the accident, irate college students staged a protest demanding the driver be handed over to them. Police pacified the crowd, assuring stern action would follow under law.
