CBI Intensifies Probe Into HCA's Alleged Irregularities

Hyderabad: CBI officials, who received complaints from Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) reportedly intensified their inquiry into the alleged irregularities indulged upon by Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) by asking the officials to furnish the details in connection with tender's process and funds spent on various events.

It was reported that the CBI focused on ₹1.5 crore that was allegedly spent on the conduct of summer training camps. The CBI reportedly sought details of the sale of tickets during the IPL matches that HCA hosted at RGICS.

The agency also focused on the tender process, which was called without any public notice and allegedly assigned tenders in violation of HCA by-laws.

TCA secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy had lodged a complaint with the CBI and other agencies in connection with the irregularities in HCA. He alleged that the fraudulent operations include cheating, malpractices in selections of cricket teams, sale of complimentary passes and corruption in Ranji and state level team selections.

"The tenure of the earlier elected apex council members of HCA has been ridden with complaints. Instead of sending 15 players, the HCA, in a bizarre move, sent more than 60 players in one season to play inter-state matches of BCCI tournaments."

"As such it is well established by the law that office-bearers of the association come under the ambit of public servants and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988," Guruva Reddy said in his complaint.

Similarly, ACB officials have reportedly retrieved data, including email correspondences in connection with the `nine lakh bribery deal during the selection of players for the Under-19 team in 2021.
