Hyderabad: The defence ministry has proposed that the state government take up infrastructure works in the Secunderabad Cantonment, instead of paying `303.62 crore for acquiring land to build two elevated corridors.
The money, which had to be deposited in the Consolidated Fund of India for acquiring defence land, will be utilised for strengthening of stormwater drain and sewerage network in the SCB.
The government has proposed building an elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to Shamirpet at the Outer Ring Road (ORR) junction on the Rajiv Rahadari (SH-1) and another from Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road on NH-44.
With the government accepting the Centre’s proposal, the municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) has proposed to take up three works in SCB — upgradation of the underground sewerage system, and storm water drain network.
GHMC will take up the comprehensive nala development for strengthening retaining structures on major nalas, including Picket Nala passing from Entrenchment Road via Seshachala Colony, LIC Colony, Jubilee Bus Station (JBS up to Patny Compound). Another one will include strengthening of retaining structures on the major nalas including Hashmethpet nala passing from Progressive Colony, Royal Enclave and other colonies upto Patny nala via Indiramma Nagar Rasoolpura.
D. Madhukar Naik, the chief executive officer (CEO) of SCB, thanked the Centre and state government for allowing the state government to develop infrastructure in SCB instead of depositing the land acquisition amount in the Consolidated Fund of India. “I also thank the state government for accepting the Centre’s proposal,” he said.
Sanki Ravinder Babu of Cantonment Vikas Manch said the decision will benefit the residents of SCB.
