Centre Trying to Appoint Hindus to Waqf Board

Hyderabad:Speaking about the Tirupati laddu controversy, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said it was wrong if animal fat was present in it. He also accused the Centre of trying to appoint Hindus to the Waqf Board.

Addressing the media in Mumbai he said, “The BJP is trying to abolish the Waqf Board using the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. If a place is used for prayers, functions as an orphanage, or serves as a graveyard, it becomes Waqf property. The government is trying to change this now. This is true in Hinduism also where places become religious by usage. Of the 1,21,000 registered properties under the Sunni Waqf Board in UP, 1,12,000 are Waqf by this principle. Once this is abolished what law will they implement.”

Alleging limitations are being sought to be placed on donations to the Wakf Board in the Bill he asked, “The Bill states that a practicing Muslim can donate. But it does not clarify who is a ‘practicing Muslim’. Will Modi peep into our homes? Will they ask for a certificate now to recognise as a Muslim? Does it imply someone who offers prayers five times a day, keeps a beard or wears a skullcap? he asked.

The Bill further says that the district collector will decide the status of the waqf property. How can he, being part of the government, be a judge in the matter? he asked.
