Centre will bear 60% of Palamaru project cost: Aruna

Hyderabad: BJP MP D.K. Aruna on Tuesday accused the Congress government of cheating farmers by playing the numbers game on the farm loan waiver in the state. She said the Congress had miserably failed to implement the Farmer’s Declaration made in Warangal ahead of the Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference at Kondangal, Mahabubnagar MP Aruna pointed out that the Congress leaders have promised that they would implement the farm loan waiver without any conditions, but after coming to power the Congress had set a number of conditions and implemented the farm loan waiver partially. She also demanded the government to release a white paper on it.

She charged the Congress government of diverting the issue of the Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project by raising the national status and said that such tactics badly exposed the inefficiency of the Revanth Reddy government to take up the project.

The Palamuru Project was redesigned by the BRS government for their greedy politics. But, the people in seven districts of Palamuru and Parigi constituency in Nalgonda are still repenting for the delay. The DPR of the project must be made to provide one lakh acres of irrigation water in seven Assembly segments instead of providing irrigation water for just 50,000 acres each for Kodangal and Narayanpet segments. The BJP had already assured to provide 60 per cent of central funds for the Palamuru Project, Aruna pointed out.

Pointing out that the Congress leaders are raising merger talks to create confusion among people, Aruna said the Congress MLAs joined the BRS when the pink party was in power and now the BRS MLAs are joining the Congress for their political gains. The BJP will not keep quiet if the Congress continues to blame them for selfish political acts, Aruna warned.

On the Congress’ charge that the BJP has not done anything for the farmers, Aruna said the Central government is providing Rs 1,800 subsidy on the purchase of fertiliser for farmers for each acre and providing Rs 6,000 under the Kisan Samman Yojana. The central government had continuously increased the MSP on crops and given support in procurement of grains, she pointed out.

The BJP leader said that the current Congress government would get the same treatment as the BRS government if it makes a futile attempt to gain political mileage by blaming the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for all its failures. “The voters have dethroned the culture-less person KCR. The current government should not try to suppress the opposition and instead focus on the development,” she advised.

Stating that the central government is committed for the development of Telangana, Aruna said the Narendra Modi government had taken up rail network in Mahabubnagar, released Rs 24 crore for the modernisation of Tandur railway station and taken measures for the completion of the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line works.

She also strongly opposed the land acquisition in Kodangal to set up pharma companies by threatening the people. The BJP will not allow forceful acquisition of lands. The pollution causing pharma companies must be set up far away from the residential areas, she said.
