Civic, Revenue Staff Told Not to Meddle in Pvt Land

Hyderabad: Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed the Tandur Municipal Council and the revenue department of Vikarabad district not to interfere with private land. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Pasaram Baswaraj and Pasaram Lalith Sandeep Nishank, alleging that the revenue department, along with the Tandur Municipal Council, is trying to interfere with their possession of the land, despite an order of injunction from the trial court against them.

Senior counsel L. Ravichander pointed out that the properties were purchased by the petitioners’ forefathers and have been in their possession since before independence. He emphasised that the government and the civic authorities ought not to have taken the law into their own hands and acted at the behest of third parties.

The petitioners further alleged that the respondent authorities trespassed onto their land, removed a board showing the petitioners' ownership, and put up a board claiming that the land belonged to the government.

In contrast, the government relied upon an order passed by the tahsildar, claiming it to be government property. The petitioners also challenged this, arguing it was contrary to law and in violation of principles of natural justice. After hearing the matter at length, the judge suspended the order and directed the respondent authorities to file their response and not interfere with the peaceful possession of the petitioners' land.
