HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has taken serious exception to the police handcuffing a farmer, Hirya Nayak, while taking him to a hospital in Sangareddy. Nayak had been arrested after the Lagcharla incident and had complained of chest pain.
Seething with anger, the Chief Minister condemned the action of the police personnel involved in the incident on Thursday. He inquired into the matter and stressed that such inhumane treatment was unacceptable under his administration.
"The Congress government, known as the people's government, will not tolerate such incidents," Reddy asserted.
The Chief Minister directed senior authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the episode and submit a detailed report. He questioned the necessity of handcuffing the farmer during a medical emergency and labelling it as an act of insensitivity.
Nayak, one of the 16 individuals arrested in connection with last month's Lagcherla incident, was under judicial custody in Sangareddy. The incident occurred when officials, including Vikarabad district collector Prateek Jain, visited the village to gather public opinion for land acquisition for setting up a proposed pharma village project.
Around 46 individuals were named as suspects and 16 have been arrested so far.
