CM Revanth sets record, Releases Rs 830 crore CMRF for medical aid in 1 Year
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has set a record in providing assistance for emergency medical treatment, with the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) releasing Rs 830 crore to 1.66 lakh poor and middle-class families in the state, in a year since the Congress came to power in the state.
In five years, from 2018 to 2023, the then BRS government had released Rs 2,400 crore through the CMRF, averaging Rs 480 crore per year. The government provides CMRF assistance if the treatment is not covered under the Aarogyasri scheme, for which the Revanth Reddy government had enhanced the ceiling to Rs 10 lakh each, or exceeds the health insurance
scheme limit.
The government bears the cost of treatment at NIMS, MNJ Cancer Hospital, Niloufer, ENT, Osmania, and Gandhi hospitals. It issues a letter of credit (LOCs) to the hospital from the CMRF. This year, the government issued LOCs to 13,000 people, worth approximately Rs 240 crore. Out of this, the largest amount has been allocated for surgeries and treatments required by young
children, according to a statement.

The government, the release said, had made arrangements to issue LOCs within 24 hours of application. The Chief Minister has ordered that there must not be a single day’s delay in processing the applications, which are cleared even on Sundays and holidays. During the previous BRS government's tenure, corruption had gripped the release of CMRF funds. The scam of creating medical bills in the name of the poor and siphoning off funds came to light.
The Revanth Reddy government put an end to corruption and irregularities in the CMRF and put the applications process online to ensure transparency. The online system works without the involvement of intermediaries and brokers and the applicants can themselves know the status of their CMRF assistance directly.
Children born with ENT issues from birth have to undergo surgeries within six years. The necessary hearing aids have to be fitted. Otherwise, they will have to remain facing ENT issues for the rest of their lives. Since the cost of these operations is in lakhs, children from poor families are unable to undergo operations. The Health Department brought this to the attention of the Chief Minister in the first review meeting itself that such children remain deaf and speechless for the rest of their lives.
