CM Revanth To Chair Key CLP Meet Today To Chart Strategy for Local Bodies Elections

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is set to preside over a key Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Sunday, which will chart the party’s strategy for the upcoming local bodieselections. These will be the first local bodies elections since Congress came power in December 2023.

For Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the local body elections represent a critical test of his leadership and governance. Ensuring a decisive victory will further solidify his hold over the government and the party.

To this end, Sunday’s CLP meeting will serve as a platform to review the party’s performance in the May 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where ministers and MLAs will be held accountable for their results, it is learnt.

In the meeting, targets will be set for ministers and MLAs to secure as many seats as possible in gram panchayats, zilla parishads, municipalities, and municipal corporations. Their ability to meet these targets will play a critical role in determining their political futures within the party.

These elections hold immense political significance as they will not only influence the governance at the grassroots level but also set the tone for future politics in Telangana. For the Congress, which is nearing the completion of its first year in power in less than three months on December 7, a strong performance is essential to consolidate its position.

The stakes are particularly high for the BRS and BJP, both of which are vying to establish themselves as credible alternatives. The BRS lost power but emerged as the principal opposition by winning 39 out of 119 seats but failed to win any of the 17 Lok Sabha seats from Telangana in the general elections.

The BJP must build on its Lok Sabha poll performance, where it won eight seats, to position itself as a strong alternative to the Congress and aim for power in 2028.

The results of these elections will likely clarify which party—BRS or BJP—will emerge as the primary opposition to Congress, potentially reshaping the political dynamics of Telangana.
