CM Revanth Unveils Plans To Boost Buddhist Tourism in Telangana

Skywalk proposed around Hussainsagar

Hyderabad: A skywalk around the Hussainsagar lake circumambulating the statue of Lord Buddha and a four-lane highway from the city to Nagarjunasagar, once a centre for Buddhist studies, are part of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s plans to develop the state's Buddhist sites to promote tourism in Telangana.

This initiative aims to transform these locations into world-class tourist destinations, attracting visitors from across the globe.

The skywalk will connect tank bund, Telangana Amarula Jyoti, PVNR Marg and Sanjeevayya park.

As part of the vision, Reddy instructed officials to draft proposals for establishing an international Buddha museum at Buddhavanam in Nagarjunasagar. This museum will bolster the state’s cultural and spiritual tourism circuit.

The state government has already submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the central government under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, emphasising the development of Buddhavanam. The proposal includes creation of a Buddhist digital museum and digital archives at Buddhavanam at an estimated budget of Rs 25 crore.

Nagarjunasagar, known for its scenic beauty and the majestic dam, is set to become a focal point of this development.

The entire vicinity will be transformed into a tourism and spiritual destination. The revival of boat trips to the backwaters of Nagarjunasagar is also on the cards.

To further bolster tourism in the region, the state government has proposed the construction of a four-lane road connecting Hyderabad with Nagarjunasagar. This is aimed at improving accessibility and connectivity.

The circular skywalk around Hussain Sagar will be designed by international consultancies and experts in order to ensure that the project meets global standards.

Food courts and stalls that make available various products, including those unique to Telangana, are expected to bring alive the area around the lake and add to the experience of the visitors.

The project also involves widening roads around Golconda Fort, with a focus on minimising the impact on local residents and businesses.

The Chief Minister has urged officials to ensure that the displaced individuals are resettled in suitable locations.

This ambitious initiative is part of Telangana's new tourism policy, which aims to develop the state's rich cultural heritage, towards earning the state global recognition on the tourism circuit. By investing in infrastructure and creating world-class tourist attractions, the state government hopes to position Telangana as a leading destination for cultural and spiritual tourism.
