Hyderabad: Colorplast, an agency that has been supplying smart cards to the Telangana state transport department, has denied allegations of using Chinese chips in its smart cards.

In a rejoinder to the news report ‘Smart Card security flagged’ published in these columns on September 17, company head of legal affairs Saurabh Yadav said that Colorplast had no role in any data breach as its responsibility was solely limited to supplying blank cards. He denied receiving any showcause notice from the government.

Our correspondent replies:

We stand by our report that Colorplast supplied substandard smart cards to the transport department. The transport commissioner indeed dashed off a letter to Colorplast on September 18 debarring it from participating in any tender floated by the department after the National Informatics Centre found that some sample cards sent for examination were found to be non-complaint with the SCOSTA norms. The commissioner also said legal action would be initiated against Colorplast.
