Congress Tries To Stop Jeevan Reddy From Quitting As MLC

Hyderabad: The Congress high command summoned MLC T. Jeevan Reddy to New Delhi on Wednesday in an effort to prevent him from resigning his post. Reddy has been upset with the Telangana Congress leadership since the recent induction of BRS Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar into the party, threatening to quit his MLC position in protest.

Despite efforts by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, IT minister D. Sridhar Babu, and other leaders to pacify him, Reddy insisted that he would remain in Congress but would resign from his MLC post.

As a result, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Telangana incharge Deepa Dasmunsi contacted Reddy on Wednesday and asked him to meet her in New Delhi immediately. Government whip and MLA A. Laxman was also asked to accompany Reddy to the capital.

Later in the day, Reddy, along with IT minister D. Sridhar Babu, met with AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal and Dasmunsi. Following the meeting, Reddy expressed to the media that his dissatisfaction stemmed from the Congress leadership’s decision to induct BRS MLA Sanjay Kumar without consulting local leaders and party workers in the Jagtial Assembly constituency.

Reddy mentioned that the party high command has promised to consider the sentiments of local leaders and workers before bringing in leaders from rival parties in the future, and he stated that the issue has now been resolved.

However, party sources indicate that the high command took serious note of Reddy’s public comments criticising the leadership over the induction of the BRS MLA. They reportedly warned him against making such remarks publicly in the future. Additionally, it is understood that the high command did not offer any assurance regarding accommodating Reddy in the Cabinet or providing a Rajya Sabha nomination if he chose to resign from his MLC post.
