Congress Celebrations at Gandhi Bhawan

Hyderabad: The TPCC office at Gandhi Bhavan which was deserted in the morning resounded to the sound of fire-crackers and drum beats by afternoon, as party members danced and raised party flags as it became clear that the party was winning eight Lok Sabha seats.

Senior leaders addressed the media and workers gathered in front of Gandhi Bhavan to celebrate.

Senior leader V Hanumantha Rao said that the BJP government at the Centre did not deliver on its promises in the last ten years. Despite assuming the role of a God-sent, Modi could not deliver his promises, Hanumantha Rao said. Rahul Gandhi walked for 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, analysing the problems of the public, especially the weaker sections of society and the farmers.

"People realise that Rahul Gandhi works for the welfare of the weaker class while Modi works for the welfare of Ambani and Adani. Rahul Gandhi promises a caste-based census and the lifting of the 50 per cent reservation ceiling. If you see UP, the double-engine government is losing. People wanted a change and that change is Rahul Gandhi," he said.

He said that the BJP was expecting to cross 400 seats but was not even reaching 272. "That shows that people are with the Congress. Whatever 60 declarations Sonia Gandhi made, we will fulfil," he added.

He said the Congress performance in the state was on expected lines. "We also expect to win Secunderabad and Medak. Medak, because it was the seat from where Indira Gandhi once fought," he stated earlier in the day. However, the BJP won both seats.

Taking down the BRS for corruption and losing contact with the people, Rao said, "What is interesting is the failure of BRS. Even changing the name from TRS to BRS did not help them. Eyeing national politics while farmers were dying did not do well with the people. The vacuum that the BRS has created has been filled by the BJP. The BRS also has several corruption charges.”
