Congress committed to tribal welfare: Ponguleti

The revenue minister highlighted the Congress government's role in including Lambadas in the ST list and officially recognising Sevalal Jayanthi to honour the Lambada community

Khammam: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Monday reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to tribal welfare through various financial assistance programmes and development initiatives.

Speaking at the 286th birth anniversary celebrations of Santh Sevalal in Kusumanchi, he highlighted the Congress government's role in including Lambadas in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list and officially recognising Sevalal Jayanthi to honour the Lambada community.

"Sevalal urged tribals to lead a healthy life, following the principles of non-violence, abstinence from alcohol, and no smoking," Srinivas Reddy said, adding that Sevalal also fought for Adivasi rights and inspired their movements for social equality.

He emphasised the need to propagate Sevalal’s teachings, calling him one of the most revered figures among tribals. "His principles remain relevant for today’s generations to lead a meaningful life," he added.

Acknowledging tribal support for Congress, Srinivas Reddy thanked them for his electoral victory and pledged to improve living conditions in tribal areas by strengthening basic amenities and the Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs). He assured that the government has prioritised tribal welfare and empowerment across the state.
