Congress failed BCs, did not keep promises: KTR

WARANGAL: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao questioned how people could trust the Congress to support the Backward Class (BC) community, noting that the party did not establish a separate ministry for BC affairs at the central level, despite being in power for 60 years. He made these remarks at the party office in Hanamkonda on Sunday.

Rama Rao pointed out that a year ago, Congress made numerous promises under the BC Declaration, including offering Rs 10 lakh loans to BC youth without interest. "Why hasn’t it fulfilled these promises? The Congress conducted a caste census survey in Telangana solely for political gain in the Maharashtra elections," he alleged.

He criticised Revanth Reddy’s government, stating that it halted existing schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Dalit Bandhu instead of implementing new programmes. He questioned why the government is gathering details such as bank, property, and vehicle information under the guise of a caste census, which should be purely based on caste data.

Rama Rao further noted that the government had pledged to allocate Rs 20,000 crore annually for BC welfare in the budget but only allocated Rs 8,000 crore. He called on Revanth Reddy to apologise to the BC community for breaking this promise.

The BRS will conduct a week-long campaign from November 29 to highlight the Congress government’s failures. Rama Rao also demanded that Congress uphold its promise of reserving 42 per cent of seats for BCs in local body elections before proceeding with the elections.
