Warangal:Hanumandla Jhansi Reddy, Congress in-charge for the Palakurthy constituency, was injured on Thursday when the dais from which he was addressing the public collapsed due to overloading. He was attending the opening ceremony of a cloth store in Thorror town, Mahbubabad district, alongside film actress Priyanka Mohan.
A large crowd had gathered to see Priyanka Mohan, and the store owners had invited several personalities, including public representatives.
As Jhansi Reddy greeted the attendees from the dais, it suddenly collapsed, injuring him. The police deployed at the site quickly rescued Jhansi Reddy and Priyanka Mohan. Jhansi Reddy was immediately transported to Hyderabad for treatment, while Priyanka Mohan escaped unhurt.
Nagaraju, Jhansi Reddy's brother, told Deccan Chronicle that the event was not well-planned. He explained that the organisers had initially invited MLA Yeshswani Reddy, but since her schedule was already fixed, Jhansi Reddy attended the event instead.
Nagaraju added that Jhansi Reddy had fractured her left leg, and doctors indicated that surgery would be necessary. Thorror circle inspector K. Jagadish noted that the dais had been constructed unevenly, leading to its collapse despite the presence of 10 people on it at the time.
