Congress Protests Amit Shah’s Remarks on Ambedkar

Hyderabad: The Congress staged state-wide protests on Tuesday, demanding the removal of Union home minister Amit Shah from the Union Cabinet over his alleged derogatory remarks about Dr B.R. Ambedkar, architect of the Constitution.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers, party MLAs, MLCs and MPs participated in protest rallies in all the districts. Congress leaders submitted representations to the President through district collectors, seeking dismissal of Amit Shah.

The rallies were part of the ‘Babasaheb Samman March’, a nationwide campaign initiated by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to honour Dr Ambedkar and counter alleged attempts to undermine constitutional values.

In Hyderabad, the state Congress organised a protest rally from Tank Bund to Lakdikapul. Participants paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Tank Bund, before marching to the Hyderabad collectorate at Lakdikapul. Protesters, dressed in blue and holding placards, condemned Amit Shah's remarks and chanted slogans demanding his immediate resignation.

TPCC president and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud led the demonstration. Addressing the rallyists, Goud said, “Amit Shah’s remarks have deeply hurt the sentiments of all citizens who believe in the Constitution. We demand his immediate removal from the Union Cabinet.”

Goud also accused the BJP of harbouring a hidden agenda to replace the Indian Constitution with Manusmriti, asserting that Shah’s statements were reflective of this larger plan. "The BJP and RSS are not only distorting history but also undermining the very fabric of our democracy,” he alleged.

AICC general secretary and Telangana in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi warned that the Congress would intensify its agitation until Amit Shah is removed. Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the issue, she said, "The BJP is systematically promoting Manusmriti over the Indian Constitution and this cannot be tolerated.”

Prominent Congress leaders including Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Koppula Raju, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, TPCC working president Anjan Kumar Yadav and District Congress Committee president C. Rohin Reddy were present.
