Congress will stop BJP’s bid to scrap quota: Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of pursuing a hidden agenda to change the Constitution and eliminate reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and minorities. “Efforts are being made to change the Constitution. We will counter these attempts with the same force they use to implement their agenda,” he said.

Addressing the ‘Jai Bapu-Jai Bhim-Jai Samvidhan’rally organised by the Indian National Congress in Mhow town in Madhya Pradesh, the birthplace of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of India’s Constitution, on Monday, Revanth Reddy highlighted the Congress’ determination to preserve democratic values and counter alleged attempts to alter them.

He declared the Congress' unwavering commitment to safeguarding the Constitution alongside Rahul Gandhi. Comparing the political divide to a clash between the "Gandhi parivar" values and the "Godse parivar" ideology, the Chief Minister urged citizens to stand united with the Congress.

“The BJP mocks Ambedkar, the Constitution, and the reservation system,” Revanth Reddy alleged, and said such stances harm the country’s fabric.

He alleged that the BJP aimed to secure 400 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections to implement constitutional changes, but the voters' decision to limit the party to 240 seats had thwarted their plans.

Revanth Reddy termed the rally as a battle between ideologies, those striving to protect the Constitution and those allegedly seeking to undermine it. “This is not just an election rally, it is a war between two ideologies,” Revanth Reddy said, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of systematically working to alter constitutional principles since taking office.

Drawing parallels to historical instances, Revanth Reddy likened Modi’s actions to those of Mahmud of Ghazni, asserting that any attempts to undermine the Constitution would ultimately fail. “Rahul Gandhi recognised these threats early on and has been steadfast in his fight to defend the Constitution,” he added.

Revanth Reddy also invoked the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar, and asserted that Rahul Gandhi symbolises resistance against what he termed as "the British Janata Party (BJP).”

The Chief Minister called for a Congress-led government under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership at the Centre, and urged people to rally together in what he described as a decisive battle for the nation’s democratic future. "The year 2025 is crucial, and we are united in full strength," he concluded.
