Congress will retain power in Telangana for two terms: Ponguleti
Kothagudem: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy asserted on Sunday that the Congress was set to govern Telangana for another two terms. Srinivas Reddy stated that the construction of 10 lakh houses over the next four years will lay a strong foundation for Congress to retain power. In the first phase, 3,500 Indiramma houses will be sanctioned to each Assembly constituency, Srinivas Reddy said while speaking on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony of the governing body of Yellandu agricultural market.Srinivas Reddy emphasised the state government's commitment to welfare schemes despite the financial burdens left behind by the previous BRS administration.
He said the Congress government was addressing the financial crunch by eliminating wasteful public expenditure. He criticised the former BRS government for spending thousands of crores on constructing camp offices, stressing that the current administration was focused on prudent financial management.
Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, addressing the gathering, said that the Congress government had waived crop loans totalling Rs 18,000 crore. Farmers with crop loans exceeding Rs 2 lakh will have up to Rs 2 lakh of their loans waived. Rao noted that cotton production has declined this season due to heavy rain. To support farmers, the Cotton Corporation of India (CII) will purchase cotton at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 7,121 per quintal for medium staple and Rs 7,521 per quintal for longer varieties for the 2024-25 cropping season.
Rao further advised farmers to consider cultivating oil palm instead of cotton, citing its resilience to adverse weather conditions as a more stable agricultural option.
