Contract workers protest non-payment of salaries

Despite multiple protests and strikes last year, the workers’ dues remain unpaid.

Hyderabad:Contract workers employed for sanitation and security services at various area and district hospitals under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad (TVVP) have begun protesting over the non-payment of their salaries. The workers are holding daily one-hour protests at Nampally, Malakpet Area Hospitals and King Koti District Hospital.

According to Motte Narsimha Reddy, president of the Contract Workers Employees’ Association, there have been ongoing issues with salary payments over the past few months. "Many workers have not received their arrears for four to seven months. When we approached TVVP commissioner Ajay Kumar, we were told that the government has not yet sanctioned the budget for our payments," he said.

Despite multiple protests and strikes last year, the workers’ dues remain unpaid. The workers have now issued a warning that if their arrears are not cleared and their other demands, such as security benefits and government holidays, are not met, they will call for a strike in the coming days.
