Couple Plotted To Murder 8 Lenders In Moinabad, 2 Dead, 6 Escape Dragnet

Upon excavation at the crime scene, authorities recovered the skeletal remains of Mahboob Bee and the body of Abeda Begum: Reports

Hyderabad: A debt-ridden couple, assisted by their cousin, reportedly set about murdering all the people from whom they had borrowed money. Police said the couple, Karima Begum, her husband Abdul Rehman, and cousin Abdul Nayan, intended to murder eight lenders from whom they had borrowed a cumulative `2 lakh, of whom they had allegedly two persons last week.

The trio was arrested by the police on Sunday. On Monday, after reportedly confessing to the plan, Karima Begum attempted to die by suicide at the Karankote police station in Vikarabad district. She was rushed to a local hospital and then to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Science (Nims), where her condition was stated to be critical.

Police said Karima was the main conspirator. Along with husband Rehman and cousin Nayan, they allegedly called two lenders, Abida Begum and Mahbub Begum of Indiranagar, Tandur, to a farmhouse, stating that they would clear their debts, ranging from `20,000 to `25,000. Abida Begum reached there first, and was murdered allegedly by the trio. Mahbub Begum went to the farmhouse and met the same fate. The trio buried their bodies at the same place.

The victims’ families then lodged a missing complaint. Investigating the case and tracking technical evidence, a police team led by Tandur Rural circle inspector Praveen Kumar Reddy tracked down the trio and detained them. Upon their confession, police exhumed the bodies of the victims and booked the trio for murder. The bodies were handed over to Karankote police as per the jurisdiction, a senior police officer said.

Rehaman and Nayan during questioning allegedly disclosed that they were insisting that six other women to whom they owned money also come to the farmhouse where they would clear the debts. The women grew suspicious after Abida and Mahabub Begum did not return from the farmhouse, and were listed missing.
Upon learning that Abida and Mahbub Begum were murdered, the six women, all residents of Indiranagar, Tandur, approached the Karankote police on Tuesday.

The women in their complainant sought police protection from the accused. They said they had lent about `20,000 to `25,000 each to the trio. Police recorded their statement. Karankote station house officer Kamlakar said police were checking State Crime Bureau Records (SCRB) on the background of the accused trio.
