Data Tool Helps TG Police Identify Criminals
Hyderabad:The state cybercrime technical teams have been collecting data on various offences and storing it in a data analysing tool named Crime Analysis Module for the detection and prevention of cybercrime and the crime related to women and children, said reliable police sources.
The module won an award for outstanding contribution under the Samanvaya Platform.` The award was handed over by Union home minister Amit Shah, to Shikha Goel, director of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, during the first foundation day celebration of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Tuesday.
The module was initially developed for the women safety wing (WSW) by the cyber police. The tool analysed the data of women and child-related cases and helps prevent them, a senior police officer disclosed. The tool was developed three years ago under the leadership of Davender Singh, SP, Cyber Security Bureau. It can be used to detect multiple cases and there is a special unit of trained officers to operate and use these tools against any crime, he said.
This module also assists the special task force (sexual offices module) in locating the accused and helps making arrests that are pending in Pocso Act cases. It also assists the investigating officers in tracking missing victims, kidnapped persons and accused persons in cybercrime and human trafficking cases, the police source said.
“Our advanced cyber module is a special-purpose team that focuses on cybercrimes against women and children. This module will not only monitor the complaints and aide the officers across the state but also collate the statuses and action taken and analyzes the data for decision making and optimising the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he explained.
“The tool improved our investigation processes through which we have identified several criminals and arrested several accused, the officer said and preferred to keep other features under wraps.
Besides, a senior police officer from Telangana developed the Cybercrime Analysis and Profiling System (CYCAPS) software tools within a record six months. These tools are being used to profile criminals and establish criminal networks in 26 states, reliable police sources disclosed. Using the CYCAPS tools, over 70,900 cases have been detected all over the country and over 450 have been arrested. By using the information from 450 criminals, police could trace anywhere between 80 and 100 associates for each criminal and arrest them, the police sources said.
