DC Impact: Long-Pending Roadwork Begins in Suryanagar Colony
GHMC initiates long-awaited project after locals accuse officials of corruption and bribery.

Hyderabad: After months of delay that led to frustration among the locals, the long-pending road work in Suryanagar Colony, Tolichowki, has finally begun.
GHMC officials began work following a complaint lodged by Suryanagar Colony Welfare Association (SCWA) with the vigilance and enforcement department, complaining of corruption in the local corporation office.
Deccan Chronicle had reported the complaint, ‘GHMC staff face graft charges from Suryanagar’ on January 26.
The GHMC started work on a crucial 500-metre stretch, much to the relief of the locals residing in the vicinity.
Earlier, around 5,000 residents, members of the association, had accused the GHMC Circle 18 officials of demanding bribes, harassment, and utter neglect due to which many infrastructure projects were stalled.
Among the key grievances was a Rs 70 lakh roadwork project that remained incomplete for over a year due to alleged bribe demands.
“This victory is the result of our relentless efforts and unwavering determination. It proves that when citizens raise their voices and the media amplifies them, accountability follows,” said Asif Sohail, adviser to SCWA.
Residents welcomed the development but remained cautious. Many opined that only continued public pressure will ensure hassle-free completion of the remaining infrastructure projects, including a proposed sports complex and a community hall.
