DCA detects price violations in Mancherial, Mahabubabad

Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Tuesday seized anti-fungal ‘Itrozen-100 Capsules’ at a medical shop in Mancherial for committing price violations.

The 100 mg Itraconazole capsules sold under brand name ‘Itrozen-100 capsules’ is under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order- 2013 and the price of product should be in accordance with the ceiling price fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) of the Central government.

The ceiling price fixed by the Central government including Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the product Itraconazole capsules 100 mg is Rs.16.67 for one capsule i.e. Rs.166.7 for 10 capsules. Hence, Maximum Retail Price (MRP) including GST of 12 per cent should not be more than Rs.187 for 10 capsules.

The firm overpriced the product and charged an excess of Rs.58 for 10 capsules which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order-2013, according to officials.

Acting on credible information, the DCA carried out a separate raid at Nikhma Health Care Private Limited Hospital in Mahabubabad district and detected unauthorized stocking of drugs, including IV fluids, in violation of provisions of Drugs Rules-1945.

It was also found that certain drugs were sold to patients by the hospital at prices higher than the MRP. The DCA officials seized the stocks, said DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy.

He said the public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the DCA’s toll-free number: 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on all working days.
