DCA officials raid two medical shops in Hyderabad for operating without license
Hyderabad: Officials of Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided Sri Sai Bhavani Medical and General Stores at Vampuguda in Kapra, Medchal-Malkajgiri district and Banda Maisamma clinic at Banda Maisamma Nagar in Hyderabad for operating illegally without a valid drug license.
During the two raids, the DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantities of medicines for sale. A total of 76 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, steroids, antiulcer drugs, IV fluids, antihypertensive drugs, etc. were found stocked for sale at the two shops. The officials seized the stock worth Rs. 35,000 during the raids.
The officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation would be carried out for taking necessary action as per the law against all the offenders.
Wholesalers and dealers, who supply medicines to such unlicensed entities stocking and selling drugs without a drug license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action would be taken against them.
The wholesalers and dealers should mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them. The DCA issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.
The DCA officials of Khammam zone detected an ayurvedic medicine ‘Kondapindi leaf powder,’ with a misleading claim on its label that it treats ‘kidney stones’ which is a contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. The medicine was manufactured by Sri Amulya Herbals at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada.
Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act-1954 prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person should take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under the Act.
