DCA raids unlicensed shops, seizes drugs

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) officials carried out a series of raids across Telangana, uncovering illegal drug stocks and products being sold with misleading advertisements.

The officials raided an unlicensed premise in Thanamcherla village of Maripeda Mandal in Mahbubabad where drugs were being illegally stored for sale. The authorities seized drugs worth Rs 53,691, which included physician’s samples, expired medications and institutional supply drugs.

In a separate action, the DCA also targeted clinics operated by unqualified practitioners, seizing illegally stocked drugs intended for sale in various locations, including Chowdarpally village in Mahabubnagar, Sugur village in Wanaparthy and Adasarlapadu village in Khammam.

Additionally, in Medchal, officials seized medicines such as Feroze-XT Tablets (ferrous ascorbate, folic acid and zinc tablets), which were being falsely marketed as 'food products/nutraceuticals.'

The DCA also confiscated several medicines across the state due to misleading claims in advertisements. These included Volirun oil, an Ayurvedic product falsely claimed to treat rheumatism; tulasi leaf choornam, marketed as a cure for fevers; Ed Phenicol Eye Capsules, advertised for the prophylaxis and treatment of eye infections and urisis kit, an Ayurvedic medicine falsely promoted as a treatment for kidney stones.
