Defeat Congress in MLC polls: Laxman

Hyderabad:Dr K. Laxman, a member of the BJP parliamentary board, claimed that the “admission” of Speaker Gaddam Prasad and Congress legislator Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy of the government’s failure to fulfill poll promises demonstrated the inefficiency of the Congress and confirmed that the party came to power based on false assurances.
He also spoke about the struggles faced by retired employees, who are allegedly made to visit government offices repeatedly to get their pension benefits, including gratuity and commutation bills. He stated that the BJP would not allow the Congress government to proceed with local body elections without implementing the promised 42 per cent reservation for backward classes, as outlined in the Kamareddy declaration.
Addressing a press conference at the party state office in Nampally, Dr Laxman opined that Congress used similar tactics to gain power in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, but the voters in Haryana and Maharashtra had rejected such practices. Laxman predicted that the voters of Delhi would send a similar message.
Laxman questioned how the Congress could make such bold promises—six guarantees, 66 assurances and 420 promises—while the state faces a massive debt.
He reminded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had criticised the BRS government for leading the state into a `7 lakh crore debt trap.
“If Congress tries to avoid its poll promises by citing empty coffers, the voters will send the government packing,” Laxman warned. He also highlighted the growing fee reimbursement dues, which have accumulated to over `5,000 crore to professional colleges in the state, and expressed confidence that voters would defeat Congress candidates in the upcoming MLC elections.
