Defence Ministry Reconstitutes 56 Cantonment Boards from February 11
The defence ministry has notified the reconstitution of 56 cantonment boards across India, including the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), effective from February 11. This decision, under Section 13 of the Cantonments Act, 2006, ensures continuity in the administration of these key areas, as the tenure of current board members is set to expire on February 10.
The notice said that the reconstitution would help strike a balance between security considerations and civic administration, especially amidst long-standing demands for improved infrastructure and public services in the region. The extension will proceed without elected members due to administrative exigencies, according to SCB Chief Executive Officer Madhukar Naik. The board will now comprise the officer commanding of the station, the CEO, and a civil nominated member.
Brigadier N.V. Nanjundeshwara serves as president of the SCB, while Madhukar Naik serves as the CEO, and J. Ramakrishna has been nominated as a member. The reconstitution grants the boards a new term of one year or until new boards are constituted under Section 12 of the Act, whichever occurs earlier.
