Delhi HC dismisses Kavitha’s bail pleas
Hyderabad: In a setback to Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed her two bail petitions in the cases registered by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi excise policy case.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma pronounced the orders while stating that the court was not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner. The judge heard the bail petitions of Kavitha and reserved its decision on May 28.
In her bail petitions, Kavitha challenged the trial court's May 6 order dismissing her bail applications. During arguments, the CBI and ED strongly opposed Kavitha's bail pleas, saying she was powerful enough to influence witnesses.
Countering the submission that being a woman, she should be released on bail, the probe agencies contended that it was a woman who was playing the main role in the conspiracy here. She was an active politician and MLC and cannot seek parity with other vulnerable women.
