Dilawarpur Villagers to Shun Caste Census if Ethanol Plant is Not Stopped
Adilabad: Villagers of Dilawarpur on Wednesday passed a resolution to boycott the caste census in protest against the setting up of an ethanol factory in their locality, which they have been opposing in Nirmal district.
The villagers submitted a memorandum to the local tahsildar, stating that they wanted to keep themselves away from the integrated household survey while demanding the cancellation of the setting up of the ethanol factory.
The villagers of Dilawarpur and Gundampalli have been agitating against the ethanol factory for the last 150 days and questioned how they can set up a factory that will pollute the environment and cause health problems without conducting a public hearing.
On the other hand, Telangana People’s JAC and civil society activists condemned the suspension of Arepalli Vijay Kumar, who worked as the principal of the primary school in Nirmal town to raise people’s issues, and urged the state government to reinstate him.
The JAC leaders demanded that the district officials immediately lift the suspension and reinstate him. They stated that Vijay Kumar expressed his solidarity with the people agitating against the ethanol factory and participated in meetings held in the presence of the district collector.
A JAC leader added that on all these occasions, Vijay Kumar, in his capacity as TPJAC district convener, participated in the programmes and took leave from his school duties.
