Dr. Nageshwar Reddy Awards Degrees at AIMSR Convocation

Hyderabad: Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman & founder of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), conferred the degrees to students at the convocation ceremony for the students of Undergraduate Batch 2018 at the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR).

Present at the ceremony were parents and families of the students. Dr Sangita Reddy, joint managing director, Apollo Hospitals Group; Dean Dr K. Manohar and, Aparna Reddy, COO, AIMSR, were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nageshwar Reddy, said that the students were highly fortunate to pass out from one of the prestigious institutions for medical education. "You start with a great advantage but let me remind you that education is like a dress rehearsal for what happens in your life, you have to continuously get educated throughout your life.

“I have finished 43 years of practice and even now I learn from my patients, my students, internet and other sources every day. Medicine is a combination of Science, Art and empathy. You become a perfect doctor when you combine all these three. It was my father’s advice that I should stop doing things which benefit me alone and do more for the benefit of the society, that day changed my perspective in life," Dr Nageshwar Reddy said.

Around 100 undergraduates received their degrees on the occasion. Since its inception in 2012, over 700 students have graduated from the Apollo Medical College. More than 90 per cent of the alumni have secured postgraduate seats in different medical colleges of the country and residency programmes abroad.

The Dr Pratap C. Reddy’s Gold medal for the best outgoing undergraduate student was awarded to Dr Siddhant Barmecha. The award instituted in the memory of senior physician ate Dr K.V.R. Prasad.

Addressing the students, Dr Sangita Reddy said, "You were our first batch that went into practice on rotations in the hospital during Covid, the first hybrid batch. You taught us how to teach from the classroom as well as remotely, you went and met patients during Covid, in all that you have already been exposed to the challenges that this world is going to place before you. What you learnt in this time in college is going to remain relevant, but the realm of what you will use in the transformed world is going to be many times more powerful."
