Dr Ram Narain Agarwal's last rites to be performed with full state honours

Hyderabad: The last rites of Dr Ram Narain Agarwal, eminent missile scientist, often referred to as the' Father of Agni Missiles,' who passed away on Thursday will be performed with full state honours. The state chief secretary Shanti Kumari has directed the authorities to make necessary arrangements for the last rites at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills on August 17 at 2 pm.

The DRDO and other scientific communities across India have expressed their deep condolences at Dr Agarwal’s passing.
Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Dr Agarwal's contributions to the defence sector were stated to be significant and far-reaching. He played a pivotal role in the launch of India's prestigious Agni missile programme in 1983. His dedication and expertise were instrumental in the development of the series of missiles, which have since become a cornerstone of India's strategic deterrence.

Dr Agarwal's leadership as the first programme director of the Agni missiles was marked by his innovative approach and technical acumen. His work laid the foundation for India's advancement in missile technology. In 1990, he was honoured with the Padma Shri.
A decade later, in 2000, he was conferred the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third highest civilian honour, further cementing his legacy.
