DRDO Expert Calls for Action Against Noise pollution
VISHAKHAPATNAM: Director general (resources and management) of DRDO Dr. Manu Korulla underscored the urgent need to address noise pollution to protect the environment. He highlighted the widespread applications of acoustics, particularly in medical research and underwater awareness.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the 51st National Symposium on Acoustics, hosted by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam, he emphasised the importance of collaboration among acousticians for a more sustainable future. Chief guest Dr. Y. Sreenivas Rao, director general (Naval Systems and Materials) at DRDO, pointed out that one of the biggest challenges is safeguarding coastlines from adversarial threats, an issue that the acoustic community must tackle.
Dr. Abraham Varughese, outstanding scientist and NSTL director shared insights into NSTL's extensive research history in acoustics. Dr. D.K. Aswal, president of the Acoustical Society of India, discussed how meta-materials, quantum technologies and artificial intelligence could enhance acoustic research.
The symposium attracted numerous delegates from across India, featuring discussions on various acoustics topics and an exhibition showcasing acoustic-related products from ten industry partners.
