DRI Seizes 2 Indian Red Sand Boa in Warangal, 1 Held

The Indian Red Sand Boa being a reptile, is listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended, thereby, prohibiting trading or possessing of this reptilian species

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has recovered live Indian Red Sand Boa (Eryx johnii) from a person, who was involved in illegal trading of live snakes at Warangal.

Based on specific information that a person is involved in illegal trading of live snakes and was attempting to sell a live snake in the grey market in Warangal, the sleuths planned an undercover decoy operation and executed it on Sunday.

The sleuths identified the suspect and intercepted him in Warangal. The person was carrying a bag. On searching the bag, two live Indian Red Sand Boa (Eryx johnii) were recovered.

The Indian Red Sand Boa being a reptile, is listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended, thereby, prohibiting trading or possessing of this reptilian species.

The seized animal and the packing material along with the apprehended person have been handed over to the Forest Range Officer, Warangal Range, Warangal, Telangana for further proceedings as per Wildlife Act- 1972.
