Nalgonda: The district authorities used drone cameras to keep tabs on Akkampally Balancing Reservoir that fed drinking water to Hyderabad and 600 mandals in erstwhile Nalgonda district.

After the incident of dead chickens being dumped in the reservoir came to light on Friday, the district authorities used drones to keep surveillance on the reservoir.

On Saturday, district collector Ila Thripati visited Akkampally Balancing Reservoir and made suggestions to officials to pep up surveillance.

Speaking on the occasion, she said a special team of veterinary doctors will conduct swab and viral culture tests on chickens in poultry farms and backyard poultries in the villages near the reservoir.

A multi disciplinary team comprising irrigation, police, revenue, veterinary officials and HMWSSB will look into the issue. Water samples of the reservoir were also sent to third party Lucid Lab for testing.

Stating that people had no need to panic, she said water from the reservoir would be filtered in three levels before releasing it for drinking water purposes.
