Drone surveillance helps Khammam police to keep cock fighting organizers at bay

Hyderabad: Surveillance stepped up by the Khammam police using drones helped them in keeping those indulging in cock fighting and playing cards in mango and palm oil farms at bay during Sankranti festival this time.

Using three high-resolution drone cameras intensified surveillance in mango and palm oil farms in Sathupalli, Vemsoor and VM Banjar, among other areas bordering Krishna district and Eluru in Andhra Pradesh one week before the festival.

Realizing that the police would take stern action against those indulging in cock fighting and playing cards, most of them from Khammam district left for Krishna district and Eluru to take part in cock fighting. The check posts between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh borders also prevented several people from organizing cock and sheep fights in the district.

Following instructions from Khammam Commissioner Sunil Dutt, the district police enhanced surveillance using drones and if anyone was caught indulging in such activity, the police decided to initiate stern action against them.

Apart from drones, special teams were also formed to check motorists on the border areas connecting Krishna district and Eluru. As a precautionary measure, the police summoned over 100, who were earlier involved in similar activity and bound them over after producing them before the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO). They were let off after obtaining an undertaking from them stating they would not indulge in cock fighting and play cards.

The police said that the precautionary steps enabled them to prevent it in advance in the district.
