Drummer’s death turns out murder
Hyderabad:The death of a drummer, M. Suman, long thought to be the result of an accident at home, has turned out to be a case of murder. Suman was allegedly murdered by his wife, her sister and their friend, who staged it as an accident. The wife filmed the murder on her mobile phone, police said.
The police firmed up their case after examining the postmortem reports and taking help of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). They confirmed that Suman was murdered.
“We used an old policing method to obtain the evidence,” Kulsumpura detective inspector K.N. Prasad Varma told Deccan Chronicle on Saturday. “We picked up the trio in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday and interrogated them separately. All of them gave conflicting statements. During further interrogation they finally confessed to murder.”
Suman, his wife Krishnaveni, employed at a hospital, and her sister Yashoda were residents of Hanuman Colony in Karwan. The siblings were friends with their neighbour, Prasanthi, security guard at the hospital where Krishnaveni worked.
Suman was said to be an alcohol addict and used to abuse his wife. On September 14, 2023, Krishnaveni returned home late from work, and Suman started quarrelling with her in front of her sister and friend.
The three of them shut the doors and windows of the house, beat him with an iron rod and strangled him with a sari.
When police arrived, they made it look like a death due to a head injury. However, inspector Sunil Korani grew suspicious after Suman’s brother lodged a complaint against Krishnaveni and the two other women.
After solving the case, police arrested the accused, registered a murder case and produced them before the court for judicial remand, Varma said.
