Each Park Under GHMC to Get Unique ID

Hyderabad: Each park under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) jurisdiction will get a unique ID and this will happen after they are geo fenced.

Geo fencing of parks will start soon to prevent encroachments and bills to contractors who maintain the parks will be released after feedback from walkers, joggers and members of colony welfare associations. Plans are also underway to eliminate pigeon feeding points in the city.

All open areas marked in layouts will be geo fenced. As per norms, all the open areas marked as lung space in any layout are by default GHMC properties and there have been instances where these land parcels marked for lung space and amenities have been sold illegally citing that they are stray bits.

"Such land parcels which are more than 2,000 square yards will be developed as parks," said a GHMC official.

According to GHMC records, there are 1,579 parks in the city and among them officials of the corporation said that 770 parks are maintained by resident welfare associations (RWAs) and colony welfare associations (CWAs).

These parks and open spaces marked for lung space and amenities will be geo-fenced with the help of the corporation's Town Planning wing.

The other measures to protect parks include prevention of illegal constructions inside the parks by taking immediate action if violations are found.

“While many parks have physical fencing, the remaining parks will be fenced,” said a GHMC official. GHMC commissioner K. Ilambarithi on Wednesday held a meeting with the officials and instructed them to take up the above measures to prevent encroachment of parks.

During the meeting he instructed officials and staff to visit the parks under their jurisdiction at least once a month, hold meetings with the RWAs, CWAs and submit a report to the additional commissioner (AC) of urban biodiversity wing by the 5th of every month.

The task related to protection of parks also includes proposals to prevent plastic in the park premises and prevention of anti-social activities inside it with the help of security guards.

The corporation also wants to keep the Green Fund with them instead of the state Forest Department managing it.
