EFLU Hosts Talk on Disability, Law and Language
HYDERABAD: Prof. N. Vasanthi, a constitutional law professor from the Nalsar University of Law, said the Supreme Court’s Handbook on Persons with Disabilities, was a comprehensive resource on disability studies, covering historical developments, current policies and practices. She said the handbook served as a guide for legal professionals to better understand the social model of disability and avoid dehumanising language in their judgments.
The handbook was launched in September by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. Prof. Vasanthi, was speaking at an event, ‘Disability, Law and Language, organised by the enabling unit of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) here.
Prof. Vasanthi called for educational institutions to implement disability-friendly infrastructure and policies. The event was chaired by Prof. P.V. Amit Kumar from the department of comparative literature and India studies.
