Hyderabad: Over 70 teams from state excise enforcement, law and order, the special task force (STF), and district task force (DTF) launched a crackdown in Kollapur, Nagarkurnool district, on Wednesday following tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao’s complaint about the ganja menace in his constituency.
Excise enforcement director V.B. Kamalasan Reddy directed STF teams from city enforcement arrived in Kollapur while DTF and law and order police are conducting operations in multiple villages and Tandas, including Chandragonda Tanda, Rupatla, Maredu Manadinne and Byran Thanda.
Raids are also being carried out on illicit country-made liquor manufacturing units and identified peddlers and smugglers. Excise department sources said four trained sniffer dogs were deployed to detect NDPS cases.
“We have launched public awareness programmes on the health risks of ganja consumption and the legal consequences for consumers, smugglers, peddlers and country-made liquor manufacturers,” Kamalasan Reddy told Deccan Chronicle.
