Excise officials, police out to trap drug peddlers and NY revellers
Hyderabad: Around 40 SIT teams formed by the state excise police, armed with 500 new drug detection kits, will maintain strict vigil on drug consumers, trafficking of banned substances and high-level sale across the state on New Year eve.
The SIT teams are likely to make surprise checks in all areas under the GHMC jurisdiction till December 31. As part of this drive, they have been conducting checks on those coming from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. They are also conducting regular checks in trains coming from Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana, sources in the excise department said.
Strong cases will be registered against all those consuming NDPS drugs and non-duty paid liquor in private or public parties, said V. B. Kamalasan Reddy, director of enforcement prohibition and excise, TG.
He said that they will be conducting narco tests on suspects using a special drug detection kit box, which will be the first time the TG excise department will be using such narco kits.
Apart from this, the excise department is maintaining surveillance on vehicle movements to trap those transporting non-duty paid liquor and drugs from other states.
