Expats Mark 10 Yrs of Telangana With Traditional Food, Songs & Health Camps
Hyderabad: The Telangana Formation Day decennial celebrations were marked with traditional food, health camps and cultural programmes in the US and Malaysia.
Over 200 expatriate Telugu families in the US celebrated with a “Palle Vanta" (countryside cooking) programme at the Shiawassee Park in Michigan.
Rampa, who is visiting family members in Detroit this summer, said, “I am amazed by the commitment and energy of the Global Telangana Association (GTA-USA) and its committee members in holding such events. Community is strength and such activities should be promoted to maintain unity,” the septuagenarian said.
The event featured a general health check-up camp for all ages with doctors drawn from the local community. Several stalls were also set up for shoppers.
Another big attraction, especially for children, was the ventriloquism show by the renowned M. Santhosh Kumar, who is also a TEDx speaker.
The celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, started with the state anthem ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana’. Later, cultural programmes and songs entertained the audience. Large number of expatriates, along with women and children, attended the programme.
President of Malaysian Telangana Association (MYTA) Saidam Tirupati said the celebrations were a tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for achieving Telangana state.
The MYTA is holding three-day celebrations to mark the occasion, he said, adding the association is expanding its outreach as well.
