Expired Food, Stored Chicken Tikka Found at 3 Cyberabad Malls

The food safety team observed cooked chicken tikka stored in a freezer and labelling deficiencies on certain food items

Hyderabad: The food safety officials of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) found certain violations at three popular malls in its limits.

During an inspection at INOX Limited in GSM mall, Madinaguda, the officials found chicken tikka used as an ingredient was assigned a three-day shelf life without supporting technical records.

The safety team observed that food handlers were not wearing hairnets properly and incomplete labelling on burger buns and sandwich bread. Dustbins were found open at coffee and sandwich counters.

Water testing records for water used in beverage preparation were unavailable. Packaging testing records were not produced during inspection.

Officials said an improvement notice will be issued and added that instructions were given to maintain all required records and supporting documents apart from asking to reduce shelf life of prepared ingredients as per food safety requirements.

The food handlers were instructed to follow proper personal hygiene practices The good practices observed include availability of valid FSSAI license and maintaining medical fitness records of food handlers apart from conducting regular pest control measures

Another team inspected PVR INOX, Inorbit mall and found expired sev and spoiled cauliflower. The team observed cooked chicken tikka stored in a freezer and labelling deficiencies on certain food items. The coke dispensary area requires improved housekeeping.

The officials discarded the expired and spoiled food items immediately and instructions were issued for improved housekeeping and food storage practices. The team, however, observed good practices. The food handlers were using hairnets and aprons apart from maintaining expiry and use-by dates properly. Medical fitness, pest control, and water testing records were available.

The FOSTAC-certified food safety supervisors were deployed apart from ensuring proper segregation of veg and non-veg items. Hot water sanitation of utensils is being followed and no pest infestation observed

One more team inspected Cinepolis, Lulu mall and found dustbins without lids. Boiled pasta stored in a freezer was discarded on the spot. Used cooking oil TPC level recorded at 21.5 and open frozen food products were not properly sealed before storage. The cola dispensing counter required improved housekeeping.

Officials asked the management to maintain proper food storage practices and instructions were issued to improve cleanliness of the dispensing area and avoid storing cooked food in freezers for next-day use

The establishment demonstrated a high level of compliance with food safety standards, while minor observations were communicated for immediate corrective action, officials added.
