Facial Recognition Fails Bald Worker, Bizarre Fix Sparks Laughter in Telangana Village

Woman’s braid helps mark attendance under MGNREGS after app fails to recognise worker without hair

Mahabubabad: In a curious incident highlighting glitches in technology, a daily wage worker in Komatipalli village of Inugurthi mandal faced trouble marking attendance under the employment guarantee scheme after a facial recognition app failed to identify him due to his shaved head.

The worker, Malyala Srinivas, had recently returned after tonsuring his head at a temple and reported for work under the scheme. However, when the field assistant attempted to record his attendance using the facial recognition app, it failed to recognise him despite multiple attempts.

Realising that the absence of hair might be the issue, a woman at the worksite placed her braid over his head during the scan. The app then successfully recorded his attendance, leaving those present amused.

The incident has drawn attention to the limitations of facial recognition systems used in attendance tracking under welfare schemes.
