Warangal: Cyber criminals created a fake Facebook account in the name of Mulugu district collector T. S. Diwakar and tried to extort money from people, on Wednesday.
The cyber crooks opened a fake FB account with the photo of the collector and sent a message to some persons informing them that he was in a meeting and needed some money which they can pay by money apps and share a screenshot to him after sending the money. The message was sent by an Uzbekistan based number +998886747021.
The collector who learnt about the message alerted his followers through his real FB account and immediately lodged a complaint with the police.
He appealed to people and his followers not to pay money if anyone asks them in his name and not to reply to the message which they received from the phone number that was mentioned as it does not belong to him.
